    Default Firmware

Can someone please explain firmware? Is it something I should have known about
before I bought a DVD player?
    Thanks

Firmware is software usually written to control the operations of a particular chip or attached device. If a manufacturer so offers, you can download and install firmware fixes to improve the performance of your hardware, or of course, to fix some obvious bugs.

Never heard of firmware until I started shopping for a better DVD player.
