    Default Over kill

    Hey
I am planning to buy the CMT-340 front & center. The 170's for the rear.
I will use them mostly for movies. Are the 340's over kill and should I go with the 170's all around? (except center) Thanks for any help.

I wold say it depends on the size of your room, how loud you like it, and what amplifier your using. I would not be afraid to use the 170 as a center speaker.

Really depends on room and budget. The 170's are a helluva speaker. The 340's take it to the next level...especially for larger listening rooms. For movies, and without knowing your room size, I'd be inclined to recomend an all 340 front end and suggest the 200 for surround duty.

As has been said; it depends on budget and room. The environment (room layout, materials, etc.) is important as well as the size of the room.

I've had the 340 - 170 combination for about a year and love it! My HT room is 12 x 17 and they fill it nicely. These are great speakers and you won't go wrong with this... but what sub are you getting?

    cheers

    Default Room size

    Thanks all for the help
My room size is 32' x 16'. I plan to put the rears about 15' or 16' back. I am thinking about the VTF2 MK2 sub.Have no idea as to amp. That will be my next project. Any recommendations? Again thanks for the help.

I setup my Parents with 340's up front, and 170's for surrounds for a 5.1 setup in a similar sized room......I think you will need a larger subwoofer though.

When you say "rears".....do you mean the rear surrounds in a 7.1 setup?

Yeah, go for the 340s with a room that big. You should also consider a STF3 or VTF3-MKII sub for that large of a room. Heck you might even want 2 big subs

    Default room size 2

    Thanks guys
The info is just what I was looking for. For now I will be doing 5.1 maybe 7.1 down the road. You all were very kind and helpful. I will go with the bigger sub. If I use two subs should they be the same size and how should they be placed?
