    Default 170se/cmt340se surround question/advice

In a room 20x15 and open on both sides which surround set-up would you go with and why.

    3 170se - for a 6.1 set-up or 2 340se - for a 5.1 set up

Surrounds will be 4-5 feet back from the couch against the wall

    Front speakers are 340se for fronts and center/HSU vtf3 mk2 sub/pio 1015 rec

    50/50 movies/music(mostly stereo/direct for music)
    CBM-170 L,C,R,LS,RS,BS
    Pioneer 1015
    HSU VTF 3 MK II

When you say open on both sides, is that for the complete length of the room? Are the walls you are using for front and rear the 20ft or the 15ft? The speakers you have chosen should work just fine, though sub placement will be more critical, since you do not have a corner to put it in.

My setup is 5.1 using the 340s across the front, with the 170's as side mount surrounds. To me personally, 340s as surrounds would be overkill, and wall mounting them would pose a problem, due to their weight, and only 1 mounting screw point. If you want 6.1, then I would go with 3 170s across the rear.
