The 70 is in stock here: http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3964406

It's a good place and I've bought from them in the past. It looks like they are currently out of stock of the 55, but if you call and ask, they might have an ETA.

BTW: I have heard the 70 has the amp section from the 50 and that the 55 has a newer amp section. There is also a new model coming out in July, IIRC.

The XR-55 from what I heard is basically more or less sold out everywhere and panasonic has halted production (they have the newer model coming out in a few months I think). This may just be rumor (the halting production part, they do have a new model coming out), but I think at any rate they are almost impossible to find right now. Of the receivers I auditioned in that price class I liked the HK-635 the best (although I ended up with the XR-55 largely because of audio quality/cost ratio). The price on the 635 is coming down as well as HK has new models coming out (Seen it recently for $600 new).

The situation with the 55 is a bit like the 340SE. Like Ascend, Panasonic wasn't fully prepared for the initial success of the product. The biggest difference I can see is the 340SE will be around for at least a few years while the 55 was around for just a few months. It dosen't appear that the 57 will be quite the bargain that the 55 was.

Thanks guys. If I cant find a panny 55 then I'll probably try JVC's dig amps. The biggest diff is that it has wireless access to a computer to play music from it. The models I'm looking at are JVC RX-D302B and RX-D402B. For space reasons I will buy these types of amps.

FYI-JVC makes speakers with real wooden cones. check them out here. love to hear what some of you think about this.

Have you read the discussion at AVS about these receivers?

The digital amp I would try first, since the Pannys are now impossible to get for the time being, would be this Pioneer Elite model:

$260 shipped with a universal player that you can always eBay for at least $50...haven't heard of PE putting out a bad product yet.
