Default LOTR Extended Edition is worth a watch/listen

I have the regular release DVDs, but just Netflixed LOTR FOTR extended edition to try out the DTS track. The DTS ES 6.1 Discrete track was pretty sweet. Deeper deeps and overall better surround action, at least to my ears, than the regular DD track from the reg release. Although I only compared several seconds of a few scends, I'd say the DTS track was better than the DD EX track on the extended edition too. If you have Netflix, you can rent either the reg release or ext ed.

Anyone else feel the same or disagree?

I've never watched the regular version of the DVDs - the extended editions are worth it for the extra content IMO, regardless of the sound.

I'll definitely have to check that out. I find that in the vast majority of movies, the DTS track is better to my ears than any other encoding scheme. I always select DTS if possible.

    The difference is huge...

My sister has the regular version and I have the extended multi-disc. Incredible extra materials as well as vastly superior (DTS) sound make this package worth the extra $$. No doubt.
