I must have missed that somehow
Do you have a link to the thread Curtis? Is this change new to the SE's, or was the original Aerogel woofer modified at some point also?

The SE change includes an updated version of the woofer as well.Originally Posted by Mag_Neato
I know the SE has an all new woofer. The pictures are of the SE's drivers. What I'm asking is....did the classic 170's woofer change from the plastic plug to a metal one prior to the SE version woofer?

I know there was a change because my friend's newer 170 classics have a different plug than mine. I'm not sure if the difference is plastic vs metal though. He said his are more "ogive".

Hi Guys,
We went from a plasic "stubby" phase plug to a more expensive aluminum phase plug about 1.5 yrs ago. Aluminum helps heatsink the motor assembly = greater power handling / less heat geneation at higher power levels... the longer plug also provides even better dispersion...
Yes... there are some "classics" out there with the aluminum phase plug..
Take care!
I bought my 340 and 170 "Classics" sometime in the summer of '04. They all have the aluminum phase plug. If they changed about a year and a half ago, then I must have been some of the first "Classics" to get the new ones.
