Yeah, I was wondering as well. Put that comparision over on AVS and you will start a bloodbath!!

Don't forget to post your impression of the SEs once you get them

Amerikes at AVS Forum seems to be the 1st person who has received the SEs from the 2nd batch (he ordered on 1/27).

...especially the PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS! All the pros who raved about the Classic 170s, I wonder why we haven't heard almost anything at all from them on both the Classic 340s and the new SE versions of both speakers?

I definitely will. I will compare the 340SEs to the Athena AS-F2s by hooking up the 340s to the B channels of my Panasonic SA-XR50.

Don't know if I will compare my 5 Athenas to the 5 Ascends. Seems like a pain to have to switch all the speakers behind the receiver.

Once you get the difference in bass extension, I think you will be quite pleased.

    Default Auditioning the 340SE's

I have had the 340SE's for about a week and have been comparing to a pair of ADS M12 Towers - late 1980's vintage - an excellent speaker. I am running both with an SVS cylinder sub set to 80. The level of mid range detail in the Ascends are amazing. It's especially apparent in complex musical passages where I can hear details in instrumentation and vocals that I never heard before. Vocals sound as if the person was singing for you right there in your room. The soundstand is not quite as large as the ADS, but it's a much smaller speaker. Bass with the sub is no issue. Even without the sub, it's tight and controlled.

My one area of dislike is brightness/dryness. It has plenty of detail but lacks warmth. I am running my comparison on a Yamaha RX V1400 receiver which, I know, has a very bright amp. I just received a Boston Acoustics A7200 amp (same a Sherwood Newcastle A965) and will see how much difference it makes. I'll be sure to report my findings.

I was surprised by the brightness of the Ascend, as everything I read led me to believe that it would be neutural, or even on the warmer side. Is it possible that the Ascend's are just revealing the brightness of the Yamaha? Has anyone else had this experience?
