    Default 170 SE measurements

    Combination ground plane (for accurate LF response) + on-axis (for accurate HF response) at 1 meter.

    I will be taking more measurements this week using a sampling of drivers (that just arrived!) but what is posted below is quite accurate.

    ---added Dec 29----
    The updated measurement now reflects true sensitivity at 1 meter.
    --------------------

    sensitivity = 89dB @ 1w @ 1meter
    response = 58Hz to 22kHz +/- 3dB

    Confirmed: Pre-orders will begin production on Jan 10. Shipping will begin by Friday Jan 13. Same schedule for 340 SE.

    I'm not sure if I'm reading this correctly but it looks like that's more than 10hz lower on the SE than the "classic." Can't wait to see the graph on the 340SE's.

    It also appears that the SE's are 2db less efficient than the classics.

    Is that correct?

    Looks like no change to me.

    sensitivity = 89dB @ 1w @ 1meter

    I think MagNeato was looking at the in-room sensitivity in the specs, not the anechoic sensitivity.

    Why 58hz and not 48hz? If you use 81dB as your 0 point for +/-3dB it doesn't look to me as they go above 84 anywhere and don't drop below 78dB until below 49Hz.

    EDIT- it looks to me that 58Hz would be +/- 1.5 dB or the response is within a 3dB variation window from 58Hz to 22KHz.

    EDIT II- Looking at the classic measurements I see that the +/- is within a 3dB window. Not +/- 3dB from a 0 point.

    Quinn...you are confusing me.

    But I see what you are saying...I think.

    When I had the 170SE over the Thanksgiving weekend, I felt the bass extension was close to that of my classic 340's....looks like I was correct. It is good to know that my ears are OK in that regard.

    Curtis, I think Quinn just confused himself

    Seriously, for people planning on using these in a small two-channel setup the added bass response will be welcome. For most setups using a sub, the advantage of the lower bass disappears. It is the increased mid/high transparancy that I'm interested in.
