    Default Should I Use Spikes?

My new 340s mounted on their stands sound great. Every good point I have read concerning their sound is true. I installed the spikes on the stands because I have carpeting. But, do you have to use the spikes? What are they supposed to do? Moving the speakers with the spikes is a pain. Anyone out there use the 340s without spikes? Do they really make a difference?

I suppose it's to make for a more sturdy base for the drivers to work against. You'd probably need canine-like hearing to really notice a difference with or without spikes.

If you have thick carpeting they act as a stabilizer by lifting the stand(or speaker if you have towers) off the carpet, letting the spikes rest on the floor. Carpet can cause the stands to rock.
