Default 340's or 170's for rears?

I'm leaning towards the 170's because of price...How much am I going to miss not getting 340's all around?

    Anyone done a comparison?

    Fret not.
I have the 170's in the surround position and they are more than adequate. Some feel the 200's are sufficient. That may be the case. If you are thinking movies mostly, the 170's will give you most of what the 340's will provide. If you are mostly surround SACD or DVD-A music, with extremely high end components and are super critical, well then... you may wish to go with the 340's all around simply for pure tonal and range balance.

340's across the front and 170's for surround is a fantastic system.

    Good luck

Thanks for the reassurance Shane. I think I'll go ahead and get the 170's after I get my used 340C.

Me's got this system and me likes...alot. Good for HT, multichannel music, 2ch music. Plays loud, clean. Unless you have very good ears, I doubt you'd notice a big difference b/w 170s or 340s as surrounds...maybe with MC music, but not movies. So, be happy you saved yourself a few hundred bucks. Use that money for a better/bigger sub
