    Default Hotel Rwanda

    Watched this the other night.

IMO, a powerful movie with political and humanitarian issues that bothered me during the movie. For me, sometimes I do not like watching these types of movies for "entertainment", but I think it was very well done.

I thought it was "better" than "Sideways".

Tough to compare the two films -- one a powerful, wrenching film too important to ignore, that left me equally depressed and enraged, and the other a lightweight, cynical (but admittedly funny) romp about shallow people wallowing in their own weakness. Rwanda is no doubt the better film, no quotes needed IMO, but (to me anyway) that's akin to saying Schindler's List is a better movie than American Pie.

    Whaaaaaaa???

As for Rwanda v. Sideways, you are correct. Different animals. That said, Rwanda was an intense, effecting film. Sideways was an enjoyable romp... and while I enjoyed it very much, I feel it was somewhat over-rated.

Maybe because I am a winemaker, and everyone I know told me that this was THE movie for me to see! I HAD to see it, they said. So I did. Enjoyable as I said, but not great 'film-making' (quotes necessary)

    cheers

I was completely disappointed in Sideways. It was tedious and slow for the most part, with some pretty funny scenes mixed in later on if you didn't happen to turn it off or fall asleep.

I agree that it was completely overrated.
