Car audio Q for a friend (Kenwood decks)

I have a friend looking at getting a new Kenwood deck for his car and he asked if I could post this question on a couple audio forums for him. (I'm not on any car audio ones, but I think he has posted it on one.) I know there are some car audio enthuasists here.

Here it is:

Kenwood recently released their new line of head units. Their flagship, the KDC-X990 seems to be identical to the XXV-01D (Anniversary Edition). From what I can tell, the only differences are some of the labels on the
face. Does anyone here have any information proving or disproving my theory on this deck?
