At present I have Serra-1's, with the NRT tweeter, L/C/R, and will be keeping them for L and R, only replacing the Center with a TC. Because of this, my first impression is that I should choose the TC with the NRT tweeter, to be as consistent as possible with the L and R Sierra's. But if the thought is that the ribbon tweeter in the TC would be better, then I'm willing to go for it.
My primary interest is HT, and here of course the C speaker is 'central', for speech. Would the ribbon tweeter have any advantages for this? My present Sierra/NRT is of course excellent, but for HT the Center speaker can never be too good!
One caveat: my 70+ old ears have the usual fall off in freq response that is esp typical of the weaker gender (mine!): when I try the on-line hearing tests, I can't convince myself that I can really hear anything above ~ 8K Hz, and certainly not above 10K. Maybe one can 'feel' it, ... . So does the choice of ANY tweeter really matter much!?
Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions, Bill
Bill,
I might be able to help:) I just finished doing the RAAL upgrade from the Nrt domes in my Towers tonight. It was a lot of work! I have not listened to them yet(as a pair) so once I have some quality time with them, I can report back. I had the Nrt Towers since end of winter, so hopefully I can offer some insight on the differences and hopefully good improvements;)
Stay tuned.....

Will be very interested!
The NRT tweeter is definitely brighter (or more dynamic, or forward) than the original tweeter I had in the Sierra-1's, and I don't think I would like the ribbon tweeter if it is too 'laid back' or muted compared to the NRT. However if it is more accurate, in some sense, that would be nice. At this level of performance, of course, it really is splitting hairs to talk about something being 'better'!
Re: The Tower Discussion Thread!
Hi Dave, would you consider a custom booksheld 3 way? Basically is the tower without the dual woofer.
Re: The Tower Discussion Thread!
merrymaid520 what did those set you back?
The Raal tweeter is dam near a grand wholesale/DIY !!!
Raal + Seas + DAVE = INCREDIBLE I BET !!!
How many of these has Dave made so far and are they available in the Bamboo dark cherry gloss?
They must be at least $2500 bucks EACH right !?!

Without going back through the posts it seems like $2700 would be closer than $2500.

They are ~$2000 per pair + $700 for RAAL upgrade, so $2700 for the pair w/ the RAAL. They would have been out of my price range at $2k each, but for the pair? Perfect.
Re: The Tower Discussion Thread!
2600-2700 a pair depending the type of finish. thats probably one of the most affordablet 3 way tower with raal 70-20 and amorphous core you can get! + bamboon cabinets which usually means extra with other manufactures.

The posts before this are correct. Base prices start around $1900(per pair) and the RAAL upgrade is $350 per speaker and will increase most likely. My pair also has the hand rubbed Piano black which is at least a $700 upcharge as well if not more. The RAAL is truly an impressive tweeter. I had the Nrt Domes for about 6 months and now the RAAL's. The difference is noticeable moreso on well recorded material with lots of acoustic guitar plucks, cymbal crashes, triangles, etc. Its tough to describe, but the RAAL is no brighter than the domes but offers more detail and range up top. Its presentation is beyond smooth! Its an experience you must hear in person to understand.

Hey Merry, this is a question from your time with the "salk" boys. If I remember correctly they thought the Towers with NrT tweets were a little too forward (compared to Songtower Ribbon). Since you had the NrTs and now have the RAALs would you say that the detail is there but the RAALs are less forward than the NrTs? Do you think your towers with the RAALs are something they would like better now that they have the ribbon tweets?
I tried the Sierra-1 NrTs and in my listening area the NrTs were just a little too forward for me but the towers with the RAAL tweeters have grabbed my attention and I might demo a pair of those next year sometime (if Dave will allow me another in home demo. I really hated to not keep the Sierra-1 NrTs but they were just a little too forward for my room)
