Anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive (sub $100) but decent sounding pair of weatherproof outdoor speakers? Now that the weather is finally improving here in CT, I'm thinking about putting a Zone2 in effect on my deck...

Are those rock speakers a total joke?

Best Buy has some Athena outdoor speakers that I heard tonight, thought they sounded ok at the store. On sale for 150 right now, but maybe they can be had online cheaper. Here is a link.

I'm almost ashamed to admit it, given the champagne taste of the folks around here, but I ended up buying some "planter" speakers off Ebay made by a company called HiFi Works. The funny thing is, they don't sound half bad. No real bass to speak of, but hey what can I expect for $50? Now the wife's happy she has two more planters to fill (and no ugly speakers on the deck). And they even threw in 50' of 16 gauge, waterproof speaker wire...

I own a pair of Level II HTD outdoors and they perform pretty nicely for $60:

Here are some from AV123 for $99/pair:

Blimey! Which I'd known about those HTDs a couple weeks ago... Ah well, it's pretty wet where I live and the ones I did get are totally waterproof...

Those outdoor speakers from HTD and AV123 have very similiar specs. My guess they are made by the same OEM.

I think you may be right on the money for this one, Lou.
