I need a pair of wall mounts for my 170's but don't want to spend $80. What other wall mounts have people used successfully?

I am currently using these:

$30 from PartsExpress, can hold up to 50lbs, and mount at any angle. The only catch is you'll have to make a connector braket (I made mine from 3/4" mdf) or drill into the 170s because the holes on the mounts are vertically aligned, not horizontal like on the speaker.

Thanks - I'll put those on my short list. I was hoping to find mounts with horizontal screw holes to match the Ascend's but this could work.

Well, certainly let us know if you find some. I looked all over creation before I settled on the PartsExpress one...

Try Ebay. I just picked up a pair of the Omnimount 30-lb mounts for $43.00, including shipping. Just search on Omnimount.

I just went to home depot and bought some prebuilt wooden shelves. cut the shelf to fit my speaker exactly and painted it the same color as the wall (you could paint it black to match the speaker). it truly disappears- cost was less than $20.

That sounds like a good, cheap solution, but are they flush against the wall? If so, that rear port needs some space to perform optimally. I also needed to angle mine...

mine are actually a couple inches from the wall. I guess you could make a shim of some sort (doorstop) to angle them- as long as it isn't too big of an angle.

I just ordered 340s for fronts & center and 170s for surround. :) This should be a big step forward for me from BIC DV-62CLRS fronts & center and JBL N24II surround. Anyway, I ordered B-Tech BT77 from crutchfield.
B-Tech BT77 (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-UefxRkoqVnC/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=110700&I=121BT77B) It's $59.99 + $5.99 shipping per pair.

It's adjustable side grip bracket. It turns 180 degrees to left or right and tilts up or down 7 degrees. Best of all it accomodates 170 perfectly and you don't need any screws to hold the speaker.

Have you actually mounted the 170s with those B-Techs or are you speculating at this point? I'm curious to hear your real-world experience with them since I'm debating how to mount mine in the new house. Thanks!

I made a shelf-type wall mount out of 5/8" baltic birch ply. It is braced solidly to minimze vibrations, and is sturdy enough to shelve a 340c. I let the speaker hang over the front by about 2" to allow the port 2-1/2" of freespace. It is mounted a bit high right above a plasma screen, so I used big wads of blu-tack under the back to get a slight downward tilt. With the blu-tack, there is no worry of the speaker falling.

I bought a pair of VMP mounts from http://www.moyerelectronics.com and they've worked out fine for my 340's. They're not pretty, but to be honest you really don't see them.

I went to the moyer website. What an ugly site and difficult to navigate! However, I did find the VMP mounts. The only two that will support the weight of the Ascends are of the "floating shelf" type where the speaker bottom sits on a plate or bracket. I'm trying to stay away from this type as I'd rather mounth to the back of the speaker. Which model did you buy?

I bought the second to last set. The SP010. They hold 20#'s

Sensibull, I am soon planning on ordering my Ascend set-up, and had a question for you regarding these mounts. I will be getting the 200's for surround duty, but will need to have a pretty serious down angle. They are going to be mounted near the 8' celing in a bay window area. The primary seating area of my family room is about 2' forward and 5' under where the surrounds will be hung. How much of a down angle do you think I could get from these mounts? Also, do you think that the severe down angle of the surrounds will greatly affect the sound dispersion?

Thanks.

From the specs they should work fine. Looking at the picture, I can't tell exactly how they mount.

I ended up with these:

After 1 1/2 years they are working fine. But you do have to drill holes in your speaker! I don't think you have to do that with the ones you found.

Has anyone tried these for htm200? They can hold 12 lbs amd are much cheaper than the Omnimount 20.

sam1000,

i have the http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/show...tnumber=300-250 mount for my htm200's

if you are mounting the speakers straight from the wall they aren't bad, but if they will be at any angle to the side, then they are horrible. the way the ball joint is designed it is impossible to keep it from tilting, i had to use a ton of epoxy to keep mine in place

Thanks b-dub for your reply. I was going to get these, but then I found a pair of Omnimount 20 on ebay for 9.99+15 for S&H. They were new and I installed them yesterday. Haven't checked out any movies yet with the surrounds. Will rent the DTS edition of Saving Private Ryan this weekend and report on it.

has anyone heard of Atlona or tried these mounts for the HTM-200?

http://hdstep.com/product.php?productid=16369&cat=286&page=1

Due to less than ideal surround placement I need to rotate amost 90 degrees sideways (so the speaker's side is almost flat against the wall) and close to 30 degrees down. If anyone has a cheap suggestion that preferably would not require drilling into the speaker I would appreciate it.
