Well, my stuff is pretty hodge-podge but let's see:

a music only setup of HK FL8380 CD player, powered by an HK PA2000 amp, for two 170s.

for ht in a tiny room, a philips dvd, proscan 27' tv, HK AVR310, AR HC6 5.1 speakers, ReplayTV 2000 series, Philips Pronto 1000 (my pride and joy!) although I've got plans for an Ascend upgrade here.

Smokey

Thanks, the Management.

For surrounds I've bought Axiom QS8's and I'm keeping them, they are great.
Yet to decide on fronts, center and the sub (hmmm... lot of work to be done). Just got the Ascend 340 L/R's and am thinking of comparing them with the 170's in the near future.

When I get money I'm going to probably get 170's for surrounds as well.

First system:
l/r: CBM 170's
center: c-v 1s-6c
sub: aperion 8"
rec: onkyo 595
cd: yamaha 6480

This is my main setup until my attic home theater gets finished. After that, I'll likely add two more 170's or l/r 340's and a 340 center.

Second System (office)
l/r: Mission 761's
rec: Sony Av 970
cd: Sony C-515

Brad, and your impressions of the Aurum Cantus L2SE's? Thanks!

To be honest, I haven't had enough time to form good impressions of either. I have a ton of things going on personally and at work at the moment and don't even have the two channel system really set up yet.

I will say that the 563A is very nice so far - extremely difficult to beat at the price unless you had a very specific need (like DVI output, WMA or XVCD support). I've seen some people complaining because it isn't as good as other $500-1000 players and that's probably true, but it's a $175 player. It's my first SACD/DVD-A player, so I can't compare that part to anything. I haven't tried it myself, but it officially supports DVD-R/RW and others have reported using DVD+R/RW successfully. I've tried DVDs, CDs, VCD, jpg CDs, mp3 CDs, and SACD successfully.

As for the L2SEs, they look absolutely fabulous and sound quite good, but the vocals ranges seem a bit recessed and the bass a bit strong. I don't think the speaker takes advantage of the capabilities of its components fully. The sound is certainly worth what we paid in the group buy, and the looks are well beyond what we paid. I'm considering taking up Rick Craig on creating new crossovers for them - he's quite skilled and has made other designs using the G2 ribbon driver.

I'll try to give more impressions later. My current favorite item is the new remote (I've only had it for three days and it already handles everything well except my AVR-520 which will require some more advanced programming) if you're in the market and don't mind reading through a few web pages to get the most out of the remote, it's a great deal.

Have you noticed any problems with pausing DTS material? I have the same DVD and Reciever and if I pause a DTS movie for more than 5 minutes (kids and pets can really interupt), soon as I hit play again I get a skipping/pausing effect to the audio. I havent figured out yet if this is the HK or Panny.

curtis

It is the HK. I have heard others with the problem too. And yes, I also have the problem. Changing the source or format for a second fixes it.

I haven't purchased the main pieces of my system yet, and the
pieces I have are in storage while I look for a house, but once it's
all together, it should look something like this...

CMT-340 LCR
4 CBM-170's and Hsu VTF-2 for 7.1 setup
Denon 4802r receiver
Denon DVD-2200
Pioneer Laserdisc w/ac-3 (don't know the model #, it's in storage)
Sony hi-fi VCR (a good one, but same as above)
Panasonic TH-42PDW6UY Plasma Display 42"

I'd say I'm 80% movies, 20% music.

I only heard of Ascend about a week ago. Haven't heard em, but who
can beat these testimonials???

Just upgraded from a Sony DVP-NS500V to the new Denon DVD-2200! I had no issues with the Sony, but I wanted to add DVD-A capability. Rick, have you got yours yet? Comments?

Choices...Choices....CHOICES!

I'm in the process of assembling my system, but the only
thing I'm certain about are my speakers! (Ascends, of course).
I was seriously looking at the Denon 4802r receiver (and was
even checking out the 5803), but after
much research on the forums (coupled with sweaty, hand-wringing
angst), I'm going to wait til the new models arrive next year
(with DPLIIx among other enhancements). But I'm going to pick up
a Denon 3803 for now (I have to hook my Ascends up to SOMETHING).
Then when I upgrade, I'll retire that to a 2-channel music room.
I'm still into the DVD-2200. I'll post my thoughts on it when
I've had a chance to scope it out.

Rick
