I've got the 170's for surrounds. I like listening to 2-channel and have not experimented with DVD-A or SACD. With my current usage I could not see putting 340's as surrounds. For my usage it's even hard justifying having the 170's back there. I think even moving to multi-channel music the 170's are going to kick more than enough ass for me.

thanks lou-the-dog i think I'm going to just buy the cmt-340L/R & cmt-340c for right now and see how that works and maybe buy the rears later either the 170's or the 340's ?

Frank, I think that is a good approach. You won't be dissapointed. It'll give you a feel for the 340 performance and them you can decide if you really need all that performance in the back. To me it depends on how you are going to utilize your system. Because I listen to 2-channel alot and I don't prefer running 5-channel stereo or any of the other simulations my receiver will kick out, my 170's go largely unused except for the occaisional discrete channel movie. Occaisionally I move the 170's to the front and listen to them in 2-channel cause they are such great sounding speakers and I feel sorry for them just hanging on the wall back there twiddling their little thumbs.

I know with absolute certainty I have the best Ascend has to offer. For at most an extra $170 that was well worth it to me.
