I just finished my first week with my new Sierra 1 and they are fabulous! I noticed on the back of them, below the binding posts, there is a single threaded insert. Looks like something you could screw a wall mount into. What is this for? What types of fitting goes here? Thanks

It is listed on the specs page:

"(1) ¼” x 20 inserts for mounting to stands"

I also had thoughts about using it for wall/ceiling mounting and asked Dave, he said it wasn't really designed to do that.

could you recommend a stand that screws into that threaded mount? I am not familiar with such stands. Also, why couldn't you wall mount them? I have seen wall mounts that support a 20lb speaker. I realize it would compromise the bass quality, because of the rear port, but I am thinking about the physical limits of the threads strength.

The Ascend TP-24 stand utilizes that threaded insert.

Also have a look at this thread:

Jason Coleman makes matching stands for the Sierra, and can make something to utilize the threaded insert. I have a pair of his stands and they are great. He also builds to your specs, and there are examples throughout the thread.

You can definitely wallmount the speakers, it is just that the threaded insert was not meant for that application.
