trying to get an idea of what others are using...

if i gave them a legitimate 85 wpc, am i shortchanging? not a large room, and they'll be crossed over at 80 (i like subs :D )...

Hi ccotenj, 85watts RMS sounds good to me.Your Sierras will be quite happy.

thanks. i don't want to underpower them, but i also don't see the need to have a bunch of power on tap that never gets used either. just because a speaker will TAKE 200 rms, doesn't mean it NEEDS 200 rms... :)

i'm only going to be sitting about 10 feet away from them...

You can use the Peak SPL Calculator (http://www.myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html) to figure out how many watts you really want.
