I design and build furniture and I think it looks lovely. I'm glad you took the initiative to do it yourself. I have made several pieces combining wood and steel. I think your threaded rod was a great idea. Functional and aesthetic.

You might want to find a way to hide you wires though. Even if its just a piece of flexloom. It would improve the overall look of it.
