I am planning on 340s LCR. I am considering going 340s all around. I am pretty sure that I'm going with a SVS 20-39 PCi. The room is about 19x15x9 and open to one side. The surrounds are forced to be mounted on the rear wall. The seating position is about 2 feet from the back wall. Should I go with the 340s or something smaller? Should I not go with ascend for the surrounds and go with a quadpolar instead?

Unless you're big into DVD-A/SACD, I think the 340s are overkill for surrounds. I think the 170s are plenty for surrounds in my setup (similar sized room - a bit longer and only 8' tall).

I can't comment on multi-polar options - I've never owned any.

It's funny that you mentioned the 170s that was another question I was pondering. Thanks

Lol I thought that was the question you were pondering :)

I agree - 340s would be a bit much. 170s should do nicely. I haven't picked up my surrounds yet, but I'm going with 170s for a room ~17x24x8 and "L" shaped (missing a 4x8 corner).

For the amount of material that comes from the surrounds the 340's are WAY overkill. Consider the 200's or 170's.
