I'm still trying to arrange an audition but can give you my opinion. Take it with a grain of salt, I suppose.

I'd say go with the 340. I always say go with the best center you can afford. Your room is pretty small and from what I have read you would probably be quite pleased with the 170... but I'd still go with the 340.

My recommendation is based on home theater, not music listening. If you are buying primarily for music you should definitely ask someone other than me.

The 170 is fine as a center, and yes the 340 is better IMO. But how much better is very subjective. For me, it was worth it.

I was going to get a 170 center until my wife insisted on a 340. She didnt like the way the 170 didn't look like a center channel, and didnt want a "square" sitting on top of the TV. Hey, whatever it takes to please her :-)

I say go with the CMT-340c. I had a HTM-200 as a center originally and my 340 is a significantly better center in my opinion, of course there will be a more subtle difference between a 170 and a 340.
