As with the tsunami and 9/11, it looks like some audio companies are putting together charity raffles/auctions. Here are some:

Thanks for posting that...

Without question, Katrina is and will continue to be a nightmare. I don't even pretend to know what is going on with the complete breakdown of the relief effort, but what I have seen is that the Red Cross is indeed at least making the effort to help...

As I and most of my friends and family have already done, I suggest making donations in any way you feel comfortable... Having raffles as these fine audio companies have done is one way to encourage donations, my thoughts on this disaster are such that no enticements should be necessary, it is our responsibility as American citizens and human beings to assist in any way we can if we are able. I am outraged at the lack of foreign support from our *allies*.... Having personally experienced the Northridge earthquake (plenty of damage) and the LA riots, I have only a fraction of an idea of what is being experienced in the Gulf States, and my experiences still leave me haunted...

Yup....I made my donation directly to the Red Cross.

The devastation in the area greatly disturbs me. I try to limit how much information I take in about the situation.....the more I learn, the more I can not understand how we can allow our own people to be in the situations they are in.

Excellent idea, and excellent response. I'm going to ask a friend of mine who is a youth minister if they've received requests for their facilities yet. I should be able to help them find temporary employment.

The United States has generally done a good job providing a safety net for it's citizens in need. I'll have to say that it appears we have failed miserably in this. The poor and sick should NOT have been left behind (figuratively and literally)...but they were.

My donation went to Red Cross.

I definitely agree that direct donations to your charity of choice is the way to go. I don't mean to distract people from that. Here's FEMA's list of agencies to donate to: http://www.fema.gov/press/2005/katrinadonations.shtm

As mentioned on their website, be cautious of scum trying to scam people during need. Only donate when you initiate the contact with a reputable orgnaization. Don't donate when receiving a phone call or an e-mail.

Continuing the audio-related slant, DIYcable.com is also donating money from each purchase to the Red Cross.

My wife and I donated to the Red Cross yesterday, but I'm all for the charity raffles as well. Anything to encourage people to help out in a time of need is a good thing. If someone who wouldn't normally donate money is persuaded to by a chance to win a pair of speakers or a receiver, then that's just more money the people of the Gulf Coast desperately need.
