I am building a home theater in my basement and am considering Ascend speakers for the room. I am particularly intrigued by the flat frequency response and the general opinion that they sound very similar to the Paradigm Studio 20's (but at half the cost).

The room will be 20X11 feet with 7' ceilings.
Because I will need to wall-mount the surrounds, the sealed HTM-200's looks like the best choice. My thoughts are that since they share the same tweeter, the 170's will voice-match the surrounds better than the 340's. I also feel that the 170's will be more than adequate to fill the modest 1540cf room. The speakers will be matched with a SVS PB-12 that I will relocate from my living room.

My question is how well does the 340C voice match the 170's? It uses a different tweeter, which leads me to believe that I will detect a difference during left to right panning. I am also wondering how well a 170 would fulfill center channel duties.

If am not mistaken, the 340c was originally designed to match with the 170s used as mains. I think I remember reading somewhere that the tweeter in the 340c uses the same diaphragm as that used in the 170, but the 340c tweeter was tweaked for better performance.

Edit: I just found the link to a post with this info:

All the Ascend line are voice matched. Choose the system that best fits your room/budget etc. I've got 340 L/C/R and 170's for surrounds and pans are seamless.
