View Full Version : Auralex MoPADs overkill for center channel isolation

My CBM-340C is in a cabinet, and I was trying to get rid of my "last" buzz in my quest to de-rattle-and-buzz my environment.

I needed to isolate the center speaker from the cabinet it was sitting in. I tried various kinds of styrofoam, felt pads, etc. I also wanted to keep the center speaker tilted up a little, pointing toward the listening position.

I wound up ordering a set of Auralex Mopads (http://www.auralex.com/sound_isolation_mopad/sound_isolation_mopad.asp).

The Mopads have a 4 degree slant toward the front, and then have "insets" with a 4 degree slant, to give you -8, -4, 0, 4, 8 degree possible orientations.

Well, I wound up sitting the center channel on just insets (two of them); the cabinet space isn't really tall enough to use the whole MoPAD underneath. So now I have 4 pads and 2 insets left. I put two pads + insets for a level isolation under my HTPC (sometimes there disk drive hum seems to be transmitted to the cabinet.)

Is there a better way of getting small quantities of good acoustic foam?
